On 12th December, 1914 the 2nd Rifle Brigade battalion of 25 Brigade, 8th Division moved into the front line trenches at Fauquissart near Laventie in France. On the night of 18/19th December, four platoons moved forward and occupied the enemy’s forward saps and advanced trenches to assist an attack by 23 Brigade. They returned to their own trenches at 2am on 19th December having had two men killed and another two wounded. Ernest Newman was probably one of the two killed. |
